On Sunday, 8 September, the nationwide Open Monument Day will take place under the motto "Modern(e): Upheavals in Art and Architecture". This motto is a link to the anniversary year "100 years of Bauhaus". Building Mayor Michael Stötzer will open the event at 10.30 a.m. together with Claudia Großkopf, Chairwoman of the Verein der Straßenbahnfreunde e.V. and Thomas Morgenstern from the city's monument protection authority at the Kappel tram depot, Zwickauer Straße 164.

Several important monuments will be open to Chemnitz residents and guests on this day. In addition to the Kappel tram depot, the Wanderer-Werke on Zwickauer Straße, the Chemnitz municipal swimming pool, the former Astra works on Altchemnitzer Straße, the former RAW, Emilienstraße, the former Oberpostdirektion on Reichsstraße and the Schmidt-Rottluff mill on Limbacher Straße 380 will all be open to visitors. The viaduct on Annaberger Straße will be presented in guided tours, the house of the Chemnitz architect Max Werner Feistel on Kesselgarten will be shown and the Museum of Technology Signal Boxes II and III with the cable drainage system in Hilbersdorf will be opened.
