Open Health Office Day

On Tuesday, 19 March, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., interested parties are invited to the Open Health Office Day at the Office for Health and Prevention, Am Rathaus 8.
Visitors can expect a wealth of interesting information and offers. For example, they can find out about school preparation in everyday family life, the quality of Chemnitz's drinking water, appropriate media consumption for children, proper dental cleaning and nutrition for diabetics. Highlights include the smoothie bike, an extensive lecture programme, hands-on activities for children, guided tours of the sexual health advice centre and an ambulance that guests can take a look inside.
On this day, Chemnitz residents will have the opportunity to find out about the tasks and services offered by the office and talk to employees.
"We are happy to explain how we help to maintain public health, prevent infectious diseases and support people in need," says medical officer Dr Hildegard Geisler.
"For us, the day is an opportunity to present our work, the spectrum of which is much broader than most people realise," says Head of Department Katja Uhlemann. "Above all, however, we are looking forward to talking to the people of Chemnitz, answering questions and exchanging views on the topics where we can provide specific support."
The programme includes consultations on various health topics, such as vaccination advice (please bring your vaccination card), information on mould in living spaces and advice on eating disorders. There will also be hands-on activities for young and old. With the help of special glasses, for example, you can find out what it feels like to be intoxicated. On the dementia course, visitors can find out what happens in this disease. A teddy clinic opens its doors for children, where cuddly toys brought along can be treated. Registered kindergartens can watch a play, fill cavities on a plaster model and do sports together.
The Robert Koch Institute launched the nationwide "Open Health Office Day" for the first time in 2019 to draw attention to the many different topics and focal points of the Public Health Service. The Public Health Service is the third pillar of the healthcare sector alongside clinics and doctors in private practice. Its main tasks are health protection and health promotion.
