On Saturday, 22 March, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Office for Health and Prevention of the City of Chemnitz, Am Rathaus 8, will open its doors. Interested parties are invited to take a look behind the scenes at the open day of the health department and find out more about the diverse tasks and services of the authority.
Information will be provided on topics such as infection protection, health promotion and various advisory and support services, and visitors can also look forward to a varied programme. There will be many activities on health-promoting topics, such as a healthy breakfast, delicious drinks with the smoothie bike and exercise programmes for young and old. There will also be specialist presentations on various topics.
Together with other partners, a training and further education fair on selected health professions will be held at the same time. Various vocational schools organised by local authorities and independent providers will be on site. They will answer questions about studying, further education and training. All school leavers and interested parties are cordially invited.
One of the highlights of the day for the youngest visitors is the Chemnitz fire brigade's ambulance, which can be viewed on site. The 3rd year emergency paramedic trainees will explain the technology, explain first aid measures and demonstrate the use of a defibrillator.
A teddy bear clinic will also open its doors and treat the teddy bears and cuddly toys brought along by the children.
"The open health centre day is a great opportunity to gain a direct insight into our daily work on site. We invite all members of the public to find out more, ask questions and talk to us. Our aim is to build trust and raise awareness of the importance of the public health service. We look forward to your visit," says Katja Uhlemann, head of the office.

Action day for daycare and after-school groups
One day earlier, on Friday 21 March, there will be a closed day of action for selected Chemnitz nursery and after-school groups at the office.
"There is so much interest from the facilities that we can only invite a certain number of daycare centres and after-school care centres each year. Our focus this year is on the districts of Kappel, Helbersdorf and the city centre," explains Katja Uhlemann.
The children will be given a child-friendly insight into various health topics at the different stations. At the dental station, children can do handicrafts and practise brushing their teeth. Funny bread faces, designed to make healthy eating fun, can be prepared at the nutrition station. There will also be an exercise trail and a teddy clinic.
Background
Local health authorities are a central pillar in protecting the health of the population. The Robert Koch Institute proclaimed the Day of the Public Health Department for the first time in 2019 - on 19 March, the birthday of Johann Peter Frank. Born in the mid-18th century, the doctor and social physician is considered the founder of the public health service. For this reason, the Open Health Office Day takes place every year around 19 March. The event is funded by the Free State of Saxony.
