Online services in the city library for primary schools
The Chemnitz City Library offers reference works and online courses for primary school pupils in its online services.
Brockhaus - reference work and media literacy training
The Brockhaus portal offers a children's encyclopaedia and media skills training modules for primary school pupils. The "Learning to research" and "Giving presentations" courses teach children how computers and the Internet work and how to use a mouse. Primary school pupils can also practise and improve their grammar and reading skills with each encyclopaedia article. They can use the "Reading aid" function to display word types in the article. A line focus can be set for better reading or the article can be read aloud. A picture dictionary and the option of translating the text, word by word or the entire document, also support foreign language or German learning.
Duden - Reference work
In the Duden series, topics relating to German, English and maths can be looked up quickly. You can navigate to the relevant page using the table of contents or the index. The required pages can be saved as a PDF document on your own computer.
Memo Knowledge - Knowledge series
Children are curious and want to discover the world - from ancient cultures and historical events to special animals, natural phenomena, technologies and inventions.
To quench this thirst for knowledge, the "memo Wissen" titles from DK-Verlag are particularly recommended, as they explain our complex world in a child-friendly way, introduce young readers to exciting topics and thus awaken their desire to read for themselves. Short, concise texts, impressive illustrations and informative graphics convey topics ranging from A for Ancient Egypt to M for Musical Instruments and Z for World War II. The books can be used for presentations.
