"One Billion Rising": For the first time in Chemnitz
Day of action against violence against women and girls
One in three women worldwide will experience physical violence in their lifetime, from beatings to sexual abuse or rape. The global protest campaign "One Billion Rising" aims to send a clear signal against violence against women and girls on Valentine's Day, 14 February 2015 - the Chemnitz dance flash mob starts on Saturday at 4 pm in Sachsenallee. Everyone can take part, because the dance is not difficult.
This dance has been performed around the world since 2013 as a global sign against violence on the same day - in San Francisco, Leningrad, Delhi and this year for the first time in Chemnitz.
ONE BILLION RISING ... is a global strike, an invitation to dance as an expression of our strength, an act of global solidarity, a worldwide demonstration of togetherness.
ONE BILLION RISING... means raising public and individual awareness of what women have to deal with every day.
ONE BILLION RISING...shows how many of us there are who refuse to accept violence against girls and women as an unalterable fact.
The project was initiated by private organisers in Chemnitz and is supported by the equal opportunities officer of the city of Chemnitz and the network of Chemnitz women's initiatives. It also marks the start of this year's Chemnitz Women's Weeks. The organisers are looking forward to standing up and dancing with you for peace, respect and non-violence all over the world!
