On the trail of the Stumbling Stones: VHS invites you on a tour of the front Kaßberg neighbourhood

Sunday, 10 November, 11 am, meeting point Stele at Stephanplatz

On Sunday, 10 November 2019, from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to take a walk along the stumbling stones on the Vorderer Kaßberg. Participation is free of charge. Registration is requested at 0371/4884343 or www.vhs-chemnitz.de. The historian Dr Jürgen Nitsche, who has been researching the history of the Jewish community in the city for many years, will remember the former residents and invites you to pause in dignified remembrance.

The November pogroms of 1938, which were organised and directed by the National Socialist regime, will be commemorated for the 81st time on 9 November 2019. More than 195 Stumbling Stones in the city of Chemnitz commemorate murdered Jewish citizens and other people who were victims of Nazi tyranny. The square brass plaques sunk into the ground have been laid in Germany and other European countries since 1992. They are part of a large memorial. The tour begins at the stele on Stephanplatz, the former site of the Old Synagogue.
