On Thursday 5 and 12 March at 7 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites interested parties to two events in the "Stamps" & "Pillows" series, which will provide insights into artistic resistance and the influence of Polish movements in the 1980s. Both events will take place in course room 4.08 at TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20. Participation is free of charge.
Thursday, 5 March, 7 pm - "The freedom of view from the basement window"
Presenter Andreas Bochmann talks to Joerg Waehner about illegal art prints in Karl-Marx-Stadt in the 1980s, improvised production sites and aesthetic freedom despite state control.

Thursday, 12 March, 7 pm - "Me, Maria & Solidarnosc"
Joerg Waehner reads from his Polish novel "Das schaffen wir" and talks about the role of the Polish resistance movement in the early 1980s and its influence on the political changes in Eastern Europe.

Background:
With "Stamps" & "Pillows", a series of events was launched in January that brings together artistic works, personal memories and historical documents to open up new perspectives on surveillance, contradiction and everyday life in the GDR. The interplay of art, contemporary history and individual experience creates a space for reflection on forms of control, self-assertion and social change - then and now.
The special exhibition by the artist Joerg Waehner, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1962, will be on display for a longer period of time in the VHS Gallery on the 4th and 5th floors of the TIETZ and will be accompanied by further events in the future. Waehner's works take up experiences that have their starting point in the former Karl-Marx-Stadt. A place where everyday life was characterised by state control, conformity and individual dissent.
