Offspring at Chemnitz Zoo
Small spherical armadillo and jumping tamarin cub are the new residents in the marmoset house
At the end of October, a small ball was born to the two armadillos at Chemnitz Zoo. At birth, the male offspring weighed just 82 grams. But by now it already weighs 605 grams. Initially only visible to the zookeepers, the little one has been venturing out of the nest for a few days now and, with a bit of luck, can be seen in the enclosure. Every Wednesday at 2 pm, the show weighing of the marmosets takes place in the marmoset house. At this event, the offspring are shown to visitors and you can watch how the keepers put them on the scales for the weekly weight check.
Male offspring can also be observed in the jumping tamarins living in the same enclosure. The young animal is now almost two months old and is still mainly carried piggyback by its parents. Both are caring for their offspring. The group has now grown to five animals. The two older young animals, a female and a male, are one and a half and one year old respectively.
The two youngest animals have not yet been given a name.
