Offspring and new arrival at Chemnitz Zoo
Young animals among the pets and farm animals - New resident in the marmoset house
Since Monday evening, 29 July, there has been a new member in the herd of domestic donkeys, the first thing that greets you on the way to the zoo from Nevoigtstraße. The female cub was a happy surprise for the zookeepers at the start of work the next morning. As nature intended, mum "Lilly" gave birth to the foal on her own without any complications.
Last Friday, 26 July, the dwarf goats in the neighbouring petting enclosure of the farm in the Ore Mountains had two offspring. The two little ones are already quite trusting and can sometimes even be stroked.
There is also a new resident in the marmoset house. However, this is not a primate, but a male ball armadillo. The soon to be six-year-old "Pacho" arrived in Chemnitz from Heidelberg Zoo yesterday, Thursday 1 August, and is set to have offspring with the lady of the house "Piepe" in the future. His lively behaviour is very reminiscent of his predecessor "Flitz", who was a little crowd favourite at Chemnitz Zoo.
