Press invitation: Monday, 29 April, 7.45 a.m., gym of the E.-G.-Flemming-Grundschule, Albert-Schweitzer-Straße 61
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, together with representatives of the state, the school and after-school care centre management, parents' representatives, teachers and pupils, will officially open Emanuel Gottlieb Flemming Primary School on Monday 29 April at 7.45 a.m. after a two-year renovation phase.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event.
Emanuel Gottlieb Flemming Primary School was completely refurbished at a cost of around 6.2 million euros, including around 1.9 million euros in funding from the Free State of Saxony, and rebuilt to operate as a four-form entry primary school (previously two-form entry). Since June 2016, the primary school has been renovated based on the pupil number forecast of the Saxon Education Agency, Chemnitz Regional Office (SBA C). The associated after-school care centre extension was completed in 2019 at a cost of 1.5 million euros.
The renovations included the functional spatial expansion of the room programme to meet the space requirements of a fourth primary school with after-school care, including the cloakroom areas. Furthermore, the roof covering, windows, exterior and interior doors as well as the heating and sanitary facilities had to be renewed. This also included the addition of light wells, the insulation of the façade, new flooring and railings as well as the installation of a lift and the complete renewal of the heating supply systems. An escape staircase was also added as a second escape route.
