Offers for young people at Girls'Day and Boys'Day in Chemnitz

This year, "Girls'Day - Girls' Future Day" will take place on Thursday, 25 April and is now a fixed date in Chemnitz for offers and interested parties in matters of career guidance. Young men in Chemnitz are also invited to take part in the "Boys' Day - Boys' Future Day" on 25 April.

Press conference: Thursday, 18 April, 10:30 a.m., Chemnitz City Hall (consultation room 118) - you will receive the invitation to the press conference of the Equal Opportunities Officer together with representatives of the institutions and companies involved in the campaigns and offers on 25 April in good time via the press office of the City of Chemnitz.
Opening event: On Thursday, 25 April, 8 a.m., in the Bildungswerkstatt (BWC), Annaberger Straße 73, where the Girls'Day working group will once again honour a particularly committed company.

Information - Girls'Day - Girls' Future Day in Chemnitz: The Girls'Day working group in Chemnitz has developed a new concept for this year's events, which is more closely aligned with the school grades and can be better integrated into the career orientation concepts of the schools. The main aim is to get girls in grades 7 to 11 from Chemnitz and the surrounding area interested in industrial-technical and skilled trades careers as well as study opportunities in technology and natural sciences and to try out these professions. Girls in year 7 are offered a discovery tour at the Chemnitz Educational Workshop, the Chamber of Crafts and at Solaris FZU, and in addition to an insight into various occupational fields, there is a workshop at all three locations on the topic of "Why are boys like this and girls quite different". Girls in year 8 can get to know and try out careers in the IT sector at the "Technology for Girls" programme at Profil-Bildungsgesellschaft, SAEK and future Training. A workshop is also held at all locations, which deals with the training market in the Chemnitz region and career opportunities in the region in the context of their own life planning. For schoolgirls in grades 9 to 11, the Technology Centre offers the workshop "Etiquette in training life - What does a training company expect from me?" as well as visits to the Saxon Textile Research Institute, EOS GmbH Electro Optical Systems and Visual World GmbH. Alternatively, another workshop on time and self-management and self-motivation entitled "Always energised and yet never finished" can be attended. The Verein zur beruflichen Förderung und Ausbildung (Waldenburger Straße 63) is taking part with special programmes for secondary school and special needs pupils: Information is provided on manual and technical professions in the fields of construction, wood, metal, electrical engineering, colour and interior design.

According to Equal Opportunities Officer Bettina Bezold, the aim of Girls' Day is to allay girls' fears of supposedly male professions and show them that women have career opportunities and good earning potential in these professions: "With these programmes, we want to interest girls in apprenticeships in the industrial-technical sector, as currently more than half of school leavers still choose their career from just ten more traditional apprenticeships. In view of the future shortage of skilled labour, particularly in our region, companies cannot and do not want to do without girls with their often extremely strong academic performance. The proportion of women in science and engineering degree programmes is also still too low. However, the demand for highly qualified specialists is also increasing in this area, and these professions offer good development opportunities. On Girls'Day at Chemnitz University of Technology, girls can find out all about the training and study programmes on offer in the technical field."

Boys'Day - Future Prospects for Boys in Chemnitz: " Many boys are interested in careers as automotive mechatronics engineers or industrial mechanics, but there are of course many more opportunities for boys too, which is why there are also programmes for boys in parallel with Girls'Day. What does the everyday life of an educator or a medical assistant look like and what do nurses have to be able to do? Or maybe a primary school teacher or care manager is something for you? There are many future-oriented professions for boys in the social sector. Boys' Day offers all boys the opportunity to try out these professions. At the Kraftwerk socio-cultural centre, twelve boys can take part in a workshop to discuss their own career and future plans. 15 municipal day care centres offer a total of 30 places to get to know the childcare profession. The Chemnitz Clinical Centre provides insights into the everyday life of nursing staff. Special needs students can try out office, housekeeping and service professions at the VBFA.
