October lecture evening in the city archive
There has been a change of date for the October lecture in the programme of the monthly lecture series "The City Archive invites you": the lecture evening will not take place as planned on Wednesday, 9 October, but one week later on Wednesday, 16 October, 6 p.m., in the building of the City Archive, Aue 16, 09112 Chemnitz.
This time, two speakers, Dr Andreas Eichler (Limbach-Oberfrohna) and Jens Hummel (Glauchau), will address the topic of the lecture: "Relocated war. Armaments production in the Chemnitz area during the Second World War".

The city archive provides information on the lecture: Due to its location and degree of industrialisation, the Chemnitz area became an important area for the war economy during the Second World War, for whose top-secret planning and coordination a so-called armaments command was responsible. Civilian industry was gradually shut down or converted to armaments production. Towards the end of the war, manufacturing processes for large-scale armaments projects were concentrated in the Chemnitz region and tens of thousands of forced labourers were deployed in the armaments industry. In 1945, the Allies agreed that war criminals in the economy of defeated Germany would have to be expropriated, including the manufacturers of armaments. Towards the end of the war, many family businesses in the Chemnitz region had been forced to work for armaments, and so their expropriation was carried out in 1945/1946.
