Observation tower on the Totenstein in Grüna is stable and open to visitors again from tomorrow

The observation tower on the Totenstein in the Chemnitz district of Grüna will be open again for excursionists to climb from tomorrow's public holiday. The tower had been closed for use since the beginning of July as a precautionary measure by the city of Chemnitz due to concerns about its safety (PM 508 dated 19 August 2013).

After the tower was inspected by the City of Chemnitz's Building Management and Structural Engineering department, which is responsible for operating the tower, the structure was examined by authorised experts. The original construction files were also examined and an expert opinion on the stability of the tower was commissioned.

The report now submitted, prepared by a building expert, confirms that the tower is stable, that there is no danger to visitors and that the tower can therefore be reopened. However, in the course of examining the tower and analysing the report, the city's building management department also decided to carry out various measures to maintain the tower's value and improve the structure over the coming months. The tower will then have to be closed again for a short time in order to carry out these measures - information on this and the work to be carried out will be provided in good time.
