NUMIC research project nominated for the Real-World Laboratories Innovation Award
The NUMIC research project has been nominated for this year's Innovation Award for Real-World Laboratories organised by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. The competition aims to recognise and promote innovative and new ideas. In addition to being nominated in the "Insights" category for real-world laboratories in realisation, NUMIC is also a contender for the special "Sustainability" prize.
NUMIC - New Urban Mobility Consciousness in Chemnitz - is an interdisciplinary research project involving the City of Chemnitz, TU Chemnitz, TU Dresden, Fraunhofer IAO and innosabi. In the selection process, the project was praised for its open approach to sustainable urban development. The real-world laboratory tested the limits of the municipal scope for creative solutions in cycling and pedestrian traffic. At the same time, Chemnitz University of Technology researched the interactions between citizen participation, mobility behaviour and structural mobility measures. The nomination is therefore also a tribute to Chemnitz's commitment: the city's citizens got involved along the NUMICO model route and on the numic.city digital platform, bringing the real-world laboratory to life. The project ends this summer.
