November lecture in the city archive
The next lecture evening in the "The City Archive presents" series is scheduled for Wednesday, 12 November at 6 p.m. in the City Archive building, Aue 16, 09112 Chemnitz - admission is free.
Gabriele Viertel, Head of the Chemnitz City Archive, will talk about the development of the school system in Chemnitz from the Reformation to the beginning of the 19th century. The occasion for the topic is the 475th anniversary of the introduction of the Reformation in Albertine Saxony and thus also in Chemnitz.
The city archive provides the following information on the lecture: Embedded in the development of the Chemnitz education system since the late Middle Ages, the great significance of the Lutheran church reformation becomes particularly clear for the school system. The so-called German school system - the majority of lessons were now held in German - was an essential part of the Protestant school policy characterised by Luther and Melanchthon. The girls' school also had a formative influence on Chemnitz in the following centuries. The lecture is also dedicated to teachers and learning content as well as the social problems of teachers and pupils.
