November lecture evening in the city archive
The history of the Magdalenenstift and remembrance of the fate of its residents murdered during the fascist era
The next lecture evening in the "The City Archive invites you" series is scheduled for Wednesday, 6 November at 6 pm in the Chemnitz City Archive building, Aue 16, 09112 Chemnitz. The theme of the evening is "The Magdalenenstift in Hilbersdorf. A contribution to the fate of its residents during the Nazi era". The speaker is the Chemnitz historian and journalist Dr Jürgen Nitsche.
Admission to the event is free.
The city archive will provide information on the lecture: The Magdalenenstift was one of the church-diaconal institutions in Saxony whose residents became victims of the National Socialist murder of the sick in 1940/41. The Magdalenenheim, located on Dresdner Straße, was built at the beginning of the last century. The Magdalenenhilfsverein was able to win over the Chemnitz architect Hugo Duderstädt for the ambitious building project.
In June 2009, a memorial plaque was placed inside the building of the specialised addiction clinic to commemorate the fate of the nine disabled women. They died in the Pirna-Sonnenstein euthanasia centre in autumn 1940.
The lecture in the town archives presents both the history of the Magdalenenstift and its sponsoring organisation as well as the last years of the lives of the nine murdered women.
