NO to violence against women
International Day of Remembrance and Action to combat discrimination and violence in all its forms against women and girls on 25 November
In Chemnitz this year, the women's initiatives will start a public campaign at Johannesplatz at 12 noon and distribute information material.
In the afternoon, Frauenhilfe Chemnitz e. V. invites children and adults to the "Weltecho" at Annaberger Straße 24 from 3 p. m. to make "wish boats", which will then be launched into the Chemnitz together.
There will also be a charity concert in the evening at the "Weltecho" in favour of institutions that work with women and girls affected by violence. The Equal Opportunities Officer is organising the event together with the Chemnitz women's initiatives. The Cologne women's band "Abends mit Beleuchtung" will be playing at 8 pm, admission is from 7 pm.
Since 1981, human rights organisations such as Terre des Femmes have organised events every year on 25 November to raise awareness of human rights against women and girls. Topics such as forced prostitution, sexual abuse, sex tourism, rape, female genital mutilation, domestic violence, forced marriage, etc. are discussed. There are various programmes in the individual cities that draw attention to these issues and expressly advocate equality for women.
On 25 November 2001, on the initiative of Terre des Femmes, flags with the inscription "live free - without violence" were hoisted for the first time to set an example against violence against women. Numerous women's and equal opportunities officers, organisations and associations took up this campaign or drew attention to the issue with a wide variety of events.
