"nice toilet" - from now on in Chemnitz city centre
Chemnitz restaurateurs and the city of Chemnitz have launched the "nice toilet" project. Restaurateurs and municipal facilities in the city centre make their toilets available to the public. The concept has already been implemented in over 250 municipalities across Germany.
The initiative in Chemnitz came from the city council. On 23 August 2017, it passed a resolution by a large majority to call on restaurateurs in the city centre to participate in the "nice toilet" concept. Until now, there have been relatively few publicly accessible and free toilets in the city centre. Visitors can now find a network of freely accessible toilets that are clean, well-maintained and often open until late at night. Local and municipal facilities make their toilets available to the public free of charge during opening hours. In return, participating restaurateurs receive an expense allowance from the city for the higher water consumption as well as cleaning and maintenance of the sanitary facilities.
Red "nice toilet" stickers in the entrance area indicate participating restaurants and facilities. The sticker indicates what facilities the toilet has and whether men or women are allowed to use it. If baby changing facilities are available, this is indicated.
The "nice toilet" can be found via the app http://app.die-nette-toilette.de. GPS-enabled smartphones navigate the user a short distance to the nearest "nice toilet".
