New general decree tightens measures in the city of Chemnitz
The increasing number of coronavirus cases in the city of Chemnitz is a cause for concern, according to the head of the health department, Dr Harald Uerlings. In the past seven days, 134 new positive cases have emerged. In addition to two affected nursing homes, the infection is spreading throughout the city, according to Uerlings. This means that the threshold of 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants has been significantly exceeded in the past seven days at 53.7.
For this reason, Mayor Miko Runkel has announced a new general decree that provides for further restrictions on public life. Gatherings and events in public spaces are prohibited, parties may only be held privately or in pubs with a maximum of ten people. Sports events may only take place without spectators. There will also now be a closing time for pubs and restaurants from 10 pm onwards. The new general ruling will be published today.
All of these measures are necessary in order to contain the spread of infection as quickly as possible, according to Runkel. At the same time, he announced stricter controls on public transport, in restaurants and businesses in order to check compliance with the obligation to cover one's mouth and nose and the general hygiene regulations.
Runkel has announced that the planned Christmas market will be cancelled this week in accordance with the new Corona Protection Ordinance in Saxony.
