Newsreader Petra Gerster talks about the importance of the media for democracy

Chemnitz Adult Education Centre vision series "What kind of society do we want to live in?"

The adult education centre invites you to a lecture by Petra Gerster on 21 June 2019 at 7 pm. The journalist and author, who is known as the presenter of ZDF's heute Nachrichten, will analyse the fundamental changes that the transition from the analogue to the digital age has brought about in terms of media and media use. The event is free of charge and will take place in the event hall on the 3rd floor of the TIETZ. It is open to all interested parties. Please register in advance. A maximum of two tickets are available per registrant, while places last. All information will also be published on www.vhs-chemnitz.de.

Under the topic "Are we still properly informed? From the Good Galaxy to the Zuckerberg Galaxy", Petra Gerster will explain how old and new media work and what significance this has for a vibrant democracy.

Petra Gerster has been presenting the heute news programme on ZDF for more than 20 years. Before that, her name was for many years inseparably linked with the committed women's journal ML-Mona Lisa, which sheds light on a wide variety of topics from the perspective of women. Petra Gerster has received the "Hanns-Joachim-Friedrich Prize" for television journalism, the "Bambi", the "Goldene Kamera", the "Leser-Gong" for the best news presenter and the "Davos Media Prize" for journalistic credibility. She has also appeared in public as an author with numerous books. The media book "Die Meinungsmaschine: Wie Informationen gemacht werden - und wem wir noch glauben können" was published in 2017.
