New VHS programme catalogue

Adult Education Centre market day on Tuesday, 28 January

The new VHS programme catalogue for the summer semester will be published on Monday, 27 January. One day later, on Tuesday 28 January, the adult education centre will continue the tradition of its so-called "market day". From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., staff will be on Neumarkt to hand out the new programme booklet. The VHS Chemnitz will be reaching out to the people of Chemnitz to discuss new course programmes and requests.

This time, the adult education centre is setting up a lounge consisting of small programme booklet bridges. In this way, it is symbolically realising its semester theme "We build too many walls and not enough bridges" (Isaac Newton) on Neumarkt. "With our course programme this semester, we want to build bridges across the divides that have arisen in urban society," explains Grit Bochmann, Director of the adult education centre.

In the summer semester, readings, discussions and courses will build a variety of bridges:

  • life in the city and the desire for closeness to and protection of nature in lectures and courses on Terra Preta planting soil, solidarity agriculture and sustainably produced clothing
  • the topicality of history in two exhibitions, "Upheaval East" and "The Kaßberg Prison and its Faces"
  • Cosmopolitanism and homeland in the reading "Heimat - eine Ortsbestimmung. Reading and discussion" with the author Susanne Scharnowski.

Foreign languages will also be combined with new course topics this semester, for example in two photography courses in English on "Street Photography" and "Creative Compositions".

The adult education centre's summer semester starts on 2 March 2020.

Tip: If you have decided on a course at the VHS market stand, you can register directly at the adult education centre in the TIETZ. The information desk will be open on this day from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm.
