New version of the city of Chemnitz's waste bylaws adopted
At its meeting yesterday, the City Council adopted the new version of the City of Chemnitz's waste bylaws with retroactive effect from 1 January 2022. The new statutes will apply for the next two years.
The new waste bylaws stipulate a consistent approach to increased levels of contaminants in the organic waste and paper, cardboard and cardboard packaging fractions.
This implements the legal requirements for high-quality recycling of biowaste (maximum foreign matter content of 0.5 per cent as a prerequisite for the treatment of biowaste). Organic waste bins with non-compostable foreign matter (in particular plastic bags, glass, metals, residual waste) will not be emptied until the person obliged to connect has sorted the organic waste or has commissioned the (chargeable) disposal of the contents of the organic waste bins as residual waste.
The requirements for high-quality collection of paper/cardboard/cardboard packaging are also implemented as a prerequisite for recycling. The procedure here is analogous to that for contaminants in organic waste.
Professional and consistent separation and sorting of waste helps the environment and saves on charges.
The new version of the waste fee statutes was not adopted by the city council.
