New trainees in the city administration
Press invitation: Tuesday, 1 September, 10 a.m., LUXOR Congress and Event Centre
On Tuesday, 1 September at 10 a.m., Mayor Sven Schulze will welcome 70 new trainees and students who are starting their training or studies in the city administration. The ceremonial opening of the training year will take place in the LUXOR congress and event centre. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event.
A total of around 1000 applications were received for the advertised apprenticeships. The new trainees include 17 trainees in the profession of administrative assistant, ten educators in their first year of training, six office management assistants, four gardeners, three emergency paramedics, two road builders, twotwo road builders, two pool attendants, two media and information services specialists specialising in archives, one media and information services specialist specialising in libraries and one animal keeper. As things stand today, 13 students are studying for a Bachelor of Laws degree in higher general administration, five students are studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in social pedagogy and one student is studying for a Bachelor of Science degree in digital administration.
In addition, the City of Chemnitz is training 16 fire officer candidates in the professional fire brigade this year. These are not present at the opening event, as training has already begun on 1 January, 1 April or 1 August 2020 or will begin on 1 October 2020. The selection process is still ongoing.
With the new trainees and students, almost 200 young people will be learning in the city administration in September 2020.
The range of professions for which training can be started is based on demand and can therefore vary from year to year. Demand-orientated training is used to cover the company's own requirements for junior staff and to increase the chances of trainees being offered permanent positions. In the administrative professions in particular, not only is the demand very high, but also the chances of being taken on are very high, as many employees will be leaving the municipal administration in the coming years due to their age: more than 1,200 employees will be retiring by 2028.
