On Thursday 26 June at 9 a.m., Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will present the new town hall guide for children in the Green Salon of the town hall. In addition to the illustrator, two school classes who played a key role in the creation of the new brochure will also be present.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
The 36-page City Hall Guide for Children takes young people in Chemnitz on a journey of discovery through the City Hall. Together with the town hall mouse and the lion, who represents the Lord Mayor in the animal world, children and young people learn what the town hall looks like from the inside, why so many of the figures in the pictures in the Wandelhalle are naked, the story behind the bell in the High Tower, how the carillon works and how the city council, its committees and the city administration work. It also presents opportunities for children to have a say in democratic processes. The booklet is supplemented by puzzles, colouring and error search pictures.
The fourth grade of the Annenschule primary school and the sixth grade of the Georgius Agricola Gymnasium in the 2024/2025 school year were significantly involved in the development of the guide. The teachers and their pupils provided the ideas for this guide and helped design some of the animals. The overall design was created by illustrator David Füleki from Chemnitz, who came out on top against two competitors in a creative competition. The project was led by Katrin Günther, Coordinator for Youth Participation at the City of Chemnitz.
The town hall guide for children will be published in a print run of 7500 copies and will be available at the town hall. A class set will also be distributed to every school in Chemnitz.
The Town Hall Guide for Children is part of the "Young Town Hall" project, which was funded by taxpayers' money within the framework of the Citizen Participation Funding Directive on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament. Funding totalling around 15,000 euros was approved for this project.
