New space for the idea of the Capital of Culture
A new citizen participation project for Chemnitz2025 is being launched under the motto "Take a seat".
Communities create places and places create community - this is the idea behind "Nimm Platz". Chemnitz residents are called upon to fill unused areas or squares with their own ideas. The aim is not to realise projects costing millions, but rather manageable projects that use creativity to improve the quality of life in one place or another - in the truest sense of the word, hand in hand with the city and local residents. After all, the realisation of the projects is to take place with the active support of the citizens, bringing people together for a beautiful new place in the middle of the district, in the middle of our city: for urban gardening, for sports, for playing, for celebrating, for barbecues, for relaxing, for meeting friends, for tobogganing, for splashing around, for enjoying art, for listening to music, for theatre, for drinking coffee, for learning, for building bicycles...
That's why all Chemnitz residents are invited to photograph a possible place and briefly describe the project idea by 28 February 2019. The five most popular proposals will then be selected by online voting and realised together with the citizens in 2019.
A budget of 2025 euros is available per place. A sum that makes personal initiative both possible and necessary. The aim is a joint project that unites many talents.
In this way, five new squares are to be designed every year from now on, at least 25 by 2025, ideally located in all parts of the city. Some may be for a long time, others only temporarily - but each as an opportunity for encounters and enjoyment, as an expression of the city's creativity and maker mentality, as a sign of #2025ZusammenDraussen.
