New skate park in Konkordiapark opens tomorrow
Chemnitz now has one of the most attractive facilities in Germany
Chemnitz now has one more attractive attraction for young people: one of Germany's most attractive skate parks has been built in Konkordiapark on Richard-Hartmann-Straße. Just in time for the start of the school summer holidays, the new skate park can be put into operation today at midday after successfully passing the safety inspection and construction approval. The 700 square metre in-situ concrete skate facility, which is a modern replacement for the previous, partially worn-out facility in Konkordiapark, will be open for use from tomorrow, Thursday (17 July) - the Chemnitz BMX and skate scene has already issued invitations to the opening party online.
A total of EUR 190,000 was invested in the ambitious construction project by the city under the leadership of the Parks Department, including EUR 125,000 in funding from the federal and state programme "Urban Redevelopment East", part of the upgrading programme. Yamato Living Ramps, a young company from Hanover, was commissioned with the construction of the facility, which was subsidised by the federal and state governments. The construction was preceded by considerations about the facility, including a planning workshop in which active skaters also took part. Construction began with the traditional ground-breaking ceremony on 13 March 2014. By the time the in-situ concrete facility was completed, the experts from Yamato, who are also skaters themselves, had invested a great deal of effort and - as they say - their heart and soul into shaping the new facility.
The skaters from Yamato will also be present tomorrow for the opening of the Konkordiapark skate park and will not miss the opportunity to inaugurate the new Chemnitz facility with a few samples of their skills on a skateboard.
