On Thursday, 15 January at 6 pm, the exhibition "Stempel" & "Kissen" by artist Joerg Waehner will open in the gallery of the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre on the 4th floor of the TIETZ. This marks the start of a new series of events combining artistic works, personal memories and historical documents. The exhibition opens up new perspectives on surveillance, contradiction and everyday life in the GDR and places these in relation to the present.

Waehner's work draws on experiences that originated in Karl-Marx-Stadt at the time. A place where everyday life was characterised by state control, conformity and individual dissent. From this concrete localisation, a space for reflection on forms of control, self-assertion and social change unfolds in the interplay of art, contemporary history and individual experience. The exhibition invites visitors to engage with visible and invisible traces of state power and to sharpen their view of individual room for manoeuvre in a historical context.
The exhibition opening will be accompanied by a discussion between the artist Joerg Waehner and the moderator Andreas Bochmann. Andreas Bochmann will also provide the musical accompaniment for the evening.
