New route network 2017+ in operation
City continues to welcome suggestions from the public
Since 10 December 2017, buses and trams in Chemnitz have been running on partially modified routes. The decision on the new route network was taken by Chemnitz City Council at the beginning of 2016 and by the Central Saxony Transport Association (ZVMS) in mid-2016.
This was preceded by a large number of public discussion and information events, as a result of which numerous comments from citizens were responded to and adjustments were made. The city and CVAG then began preparations to implement the changed route network. In addition to the installation of new bus stops by the city of Chemnitz, CVAG purchased new buses, hired additional drivers and prepared the timetables and route network plans.
The 2017+ network will offer around 1.2 million more timetabled kilometres than before. In addition to the extension of daytime services until 7 p.m. and connections to all districts at least every hour until 10.45 p.m., completely new services, such as tram line 3 to Technopark and ring bus line 82, also went into operation on 10 December 2017. Interested parties were able to familiarise themselves with these new services free of charge at a taster day on 10 December 2017.
However, the introduction of new services does not always run smoothly, despite the best preparations. What's more, the situation in the city is currently difficult due to the many ongoing construction measures, e.g. the central bus stop. Since the new route network went into operation, both the city of Chemnitz and CVAG have received numerous comments and suggestions regarding the changes to the services.
The city and CVAG would like to thank you for the lively interest in local public transport and would like to encourage passengers to continue to communicate their suggestions and problems regarding the operating schedule (timetable, connections, etc.) openly and in detail. This is the only way to take appropriate action. For this purpose, the City of Chemnitz has activated the email address nahverkehr(at)stadt-chemnitz.de in the tried and tested manner, to which information can be easily sent. At the end of January 2018, the information will be bundled and discussed between the City of Chemnitz and CVAG and possible solutions will be sought.
The aim is to resolve as many concerns as possible in the short term. However, all change requests that are associated with service extensions and are therefore relevant to the budget must be confirmed by a resolution in the city council. The implementation horizon is therefore much longer than for purely operational change requests.
