New playground completed

Play and leisure facility in the Riedbachtal green corridor inaugurated on Children's Day

Just in time for Children's Day, the play and leisure facility in the Riedbachtal green corridor will be inaugurated by Mayor Michael Stötzer next Thursday, 1 June at 3 pm. This will also mark the handover of the first construction phase of the Riedbachtal green corridor.

The site of the new green corridor is located in the new residential area "An der Riedstraße", opposite the DRK hospital in Chemnitz-Rabenstein. The total area of the park in the first construction phase is approx. 19,500 square metres. The construction phase includes the bank areas running from north-west to south-east and accompanying the Riedbach stream.

The play and leisure facility consists of two sections: an area with a large climbing combination for up to 20 children with several play elements, a spring rocker and a double spring rocker and the second area with a nest swing.

The play equipment was selected in consultation with local residents. Particular emphasis was placed on a variety of play options and the robustness of the equipment. The manufacturer of the play equipment is Proludic from Gingen an der Fils.

The play area is initially accessed by a tarmac path in the direction of Bauernweg. In the direction of Sonnenhügel, the path connection will temporarily remain in the condition with the base course installed, as further work on the lower retention basin (laying of the rainwater pipe for the fourth construction site) is to be carried out by the property developer in October.

In addition to the trees already on the banks, a total of 60 trees (22 birches, 29 rowan trees, seven mountain ash trees and two winter lime trees) are planned.

The company Techno-Farm & Service GmbH, Neukirchen-Adorf, has been commissioned with the construction work, which initially had to contend with the weather and the heavy soaking of the area at the beginning of the year, but was nevertheless able to complete the work on time.

The costs for the redesign of this area are estimated to total approx. 235,000 euros, financed by development contributions. Completion of the east-west road link is expected in November this year.
