New park path created on the banks of the Chemnitz
Start of construction for "Stadt am Fluss" project between Müllerstrasse and Eckstrasse
On the western bank of the Chemnitz between Müllerstraße and Eckstraße, construction work began this week to create an attractive pathway for pedestrians. Various trees will be planted and park benches placed along the sand-slurry pathway. One third of the corner road west of the Chemnitz will be unsealed and sown with grass. The remaining part of the road will be renovated and fitted with a new asphalt surface.
The Helgoland meeting place, named after the allotment site that used to be there, is part of the "Stadt am Fluss" project. As part of this project, various design measures are being realised along the Chemnitz and its tributaries as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
During the construction period, the access roads to the inetz building, a garage complex and the Tisora factory premises will remain open. The Chemnitz Valley cycle path, which leads into Eckstrasse, will be diverted during this time.
The costs for the measure, which is expected to last until the beginning of May, amount to around 170,000 euros. The project was planned by Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH Chemnitz, and the contractor is Steinbach & Richter GbR.
