New offer from the city archive - city maps from 1914 and 1946 reprinted
The city archive has taken up and fulfilled a frequently expressed wish from Chemnitz residents who are interested in the city's history and have close ties to their hometown: Two city maps, from 1914 and 1946, have been faithfully reprinted in colour and can be purchased at the city archive building, Aue 16, during opening hours.
On the 1914 map, the town area is clearly demarcated from the surrounding countryside. Between 1914 and 1946, Ebersdorf and Markersdorf (1919), Heinersdorf (1922), Rottluff (1926) and Reichenhain (1929) were incorporated into Chemnitz. The map from 1946 shows the city boundary in the form of a dashed line. The plans provide an insight into the respective street layout with the street names of the time. The surrounding area immediately adjacent to the city is also shown on the map. The 1946 plan also contains a street directory and a separate section of the city centre. Public buildings are highlighted separately.
