New measuring vehicle from the public order office
From next week, the public order office will be replacing a ten-year-old Skoda Roomster radar measurement vehicle with a new VW Caddy (see photo). The cost of the vehicle, including the measuring system, is around 121,000 euros.
This new vehicle is also equipped with modern lidar measurement technology. The measuring principle is a further development of the laser guns that have been used for decades. Light beams are emitted and the reflected beams are picked up again. The speed travelled is determined from the time difference and the distance. What is new is that the light beams are emitted by a rotation scanner, whereas previously they were permanent light beams. The previous measurement method using an analogue radar antenna is leaving the market.
Over the past two years, it has become increasingly apparent that too many drivers are still exceeding the speed limit, in some cases drastically. The increase in accidents caused by inappropriate or excessive speeds has also been recorded in the city of Chemnitz. For this reason, the city of Chemnitz has decided to maintain the number of mobile measuring devices and to use modern measuring technology.
Another outdated radar measuring vehicle is to be replaced by a modern measuring system within the next ten months.
