New mayor takes office
Dagmar Ruscheinsky starts working for the City of Chemnitz on 1 February
On Tuesday, 1 February, the new mayor of Department 5 of the City of Chemnitz will take office. Dagmar Ruscheinsky will be responsible for the areas of education, social affairs, youth, culture and sport. She was elected by Chemnitz City Council on 24 November 2021.
"I am very much looking forward to this extensive task. I already had a first, very interesting exchange with Stefan Schmidtke, Managing Director of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH, at the end of last year. I would like to build on this very quickly and also involve the entire municipal cultural organisation with its director, Ferenc Csák. Rapid dialogue with the Social Welfare Office and the Youth Welfare Office is also a high priority for me. The youth, social and especially the sports sector as an integrative element in many respects - these are the departments that are very important for the cohesion and mood of Chemnitz's urban society."
Department 5 includes the Cultural Department with the City Library, the Adult Education Centre, the Museum of Natural History and the City Music School, as well as the Chemnitz Art Collections, the Social Welfare Office, the Youth Welfare Office, the Health Department, the Education Department and the Sports Department.
Dagmar Ruscheinsky is 63 years old and married. Most recently, she was head of the management staff at the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning in Berlin. Before that, she worked in Chemnitz for many years. In 1999, the German studies graduate and trained journalist began working for the Freie Presse in various management positions. In 2007, she joined Stadtwerke Chemnitz, the predecessor of eins energie, as a senior manager. She worked there until she moved to Berlin in 2015.
