New long-distance bus terminal on Dresdner Straße completed

Construction work is complete - opening as planned in December

Construction work on the new long-distance bus terminal on Dresdner Straße will be completed on Thursday, 1 August. Since the end of March 2023, four bus platforms have been built as bus stop islands to the north of the platform tunnel.

No long-distance buses are currently departing as the Europe-wide tender for the operation of the long-distance bus terminal is still ongoing. When the terminal is handed over to the operator, the latter will then install the technical infrastructure and the system required to register and dispatch the buses. The opening of the long-distance bus terminal is planned for December this year. Once the construction work has been completed, the terminal will therefore be secured by construction fences for the time being.

Buses will approach the terminal from the landward direction from Dresdner Straße. The exit is only possible in the direction of the city centre and is located behind the roofing of the tunnel exit back onto Dresdner Straße. Trial runs, during which the driving curves were tested, were successful.

Passengers will reach the partially covered bus platforms via the widened pavement on Dresdner Straße.

33 car parking spaces have been built directly on the site, including two disabled parking spaces, three Kiss+Ride spaces, four for taxis, one car sharing space and two for charging. Empty conduits were laid in the area of the car parking spaces and bus stops to enable charging technology for cars and buses to be installed at a later date.

The construction work was scheduled for completion in June. Due to changes in delivery times for the steel structure and for the roof and side glazing, completion was postponed until the beginning of August. The car park has been open for use for a fortnight.

The planned costs of around 2.87 million euros were met.

To compensate for the necessary felling of ten trees (plane trees, lime trees, oaks) along Dresdner Strasse, 33 trees are expected to be planted directly on the Fernbus Terminal site from the end of October.
