New location for vaccination centre in Chemnitz
Richard-Hartmann-Halle will replace the Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße site from the end of March
The city of Chemnitz, together with the German Red Cross and the Free State Ministry of Social Affairs, has found a new location for a larger vaccination centre in Chemnitz.
From the end of the month, vaccinations will be given in the Richard-Hartmann-Halle, the previous location in Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße 6 will then be closed.
Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping explains the move: "We will continue to increase vaccination capacity in the coming weeks in order to be able to allocate the vaccine supplied. The relocation of the Chemnitz vaccination centre is part of this strategy, according to which we want to enable more people to be vaccinated more quickly. I would like to thank the city of Chemnitz for its flexible coordination with the DRK to make this move possible. We are also in the process of organising further decentralised vaccination opportunities in other regions. The Free State is bearing part of the costs for this."
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze is pleased that this solution has now been found after many discussions: "The more Chemnitz residents are vaccinated, the sooner we - together with the other measures such as social distancing, hygiene and rapid tests - will get the pandemic under control together. Due to the expected supply of vaccine, it is important that we have more opportunities to vaccinate."
The new vaccination centre in the Richard-Hartmann-Halle is due to open on 29 March - with the prospect of being able to vaccinate twice as many people at the same time as before.
