Invitation to a press conference with viewing: Monday, 1 November, 11 a.m., Limbacher Straße 170/172
Representatives of the media are invited to a press conference with the City Planning Office on Monday, 1 November at 11 a.m. to mark the "International Day of Cities". This will take place in the listed building at Limbacher Straße 170/172.
The two adjoining Wilhelminian-style apartment blocks have been managed by the StadtWohnen Chemnitz agency since 2018. Since then, it has been possible to find an owner willing to renovate the buildings. The refurbishment is now being made possible. Initially, both buildings will be secured with a grant of around 246,000 euros from the urban development programme.
A banner on the buildings draws attention to the ALT/BAU network, in which the city of Chemnitz, the StadtWohnen Chemnitz agency and six European network partner cities have worked together over the past three years to revitalise vacant buildings. The results of the network's work will be presented on Monday. The presentation of the two listed buildings on Limbacher Straße is part of the "New life for old houses" campaign launched by the city of Chemnitz last year with the Hofbräuhaus.
In addition to Grit Stillger, Head of the Urban Regeneration Department at the City Planning Office, and representatives of the StadtWohnen Chemnitz agency, the owner of both buildings will also be present at the press conference. He will report on his refurbishment plans and allow a tour of the buildings. Old-established Chemnitz residents will remember Limbacher Straße 170 as the Werner bakery. The bakery, which operated until at least the 1990s, was particularly famous among pupils at Altendorf School for its cake crusts and special format breads.
