New information pillars on the Sonnenberg
Three new information pillars have been erected on the Sonnenberg. Locations were chosen that are particularly characteristic of the Sonnenberg: the residential area around the impressive monument of the former Riemannwerke on Humboldthöhe (Hofer Straße 23a), Lessingplatz and Sonnenstraße 35 in the prefabricated housing area, which was transformed into an attractive residential area with urban redevelopment funds and great commitment from the two housing associations.
The steles are not only intended to give visitors to the neighbourhood an understanding of the history of Sonnenberg, but also to tell residents interesting facts about their district and its development. Since 1991, the Sonnenberg has been an assisted area in the federal and state urban development programmes.
Sonnenberg, a lively neighbourhood in the heart of Chemnitz, invites you to discover and linger thanks to its diversity and urban atmosphere. The streets are lined with beautifully renovated old buildings from the Wilhelminian era that bear witness to a rich past. Cafés, shops and traditional crafts lend the neighbourhood a typical flair. The neighbourhood is a fusion of history and modernity and is a great place to live and work. Sonnenberg still offers plenty of space for creative ideas and places for young residents to spend their leisure time.
The information steles project was realised by the City of Chemnitz Urban Planning Office in cooperation with the Sonnenberg History Working Group and the Westsächsische Gesellschaft für Stadterneuerung mbH. Schilderwerk Beutha GmbH was responsible for the installation. Urban development funds were used for the project.
