At its most recent meeting, the City Council elected Mirko Claus as the new head of the City of Chemnitz's legal department. He succeeds Thomas Meyer, who has retired.

Mirko Claus was most recently Chancellor and Head of Administration at the Berufsakademie Sachsen. After studying law in Leipzig and completing his legal traineeship in Chemnitz and elsewhere, he held various positions in law firms and organisations before moving to Berufsakademie Sachsen as Head of Administration in 2016. He has also been Chancellor there since 2022.

The 47-year-old was born in Erlabrunn. He is married and has three children.

In addition to legal matters, the City of Chemnitz's legal department is also home to the city's central public procurement office.
