Improved financial support for trips for children and young people
At its meeting yesterday, the Youth Welfare Committee approved the new guidelines for the funding of children's and youth recreation programmes in the city of Chemnitz. This will significantly improve financial support for Chemnitz families whose children take part in recreational activities lasting several days during the school holidays.
According to the new guidelines, the grant is independent of income and can be awarded for holiday trips of at least four days with three overnight stays. The amount of the grant is ten euros per day. Children and young people between the ages of seven and 18 are eligible. Children from the age of six are eligible if they have already started school. Support is possible up to the age of 21 if young people receive benefits according to SGB II or SGB XII.
The new regulation will provide particular relief for families with low incomes. For participants with a valid Chemnitzpass or Chemnitzpass K, an additional 15 euros per day will be available. It should be noted that this only applies to trips within Europe.
For all trips, participants are required to contribute at least ten per cent of the regular travel price.
Financial support is also provided for the educational support of the Chemnitz participants. An expense allowance of 15 euros per day and carer is granted.
In order to receive the allowance, interested families can choose a holiday trip for their child organised by one of the numerous independent youth welfare organisations. It is usually advisable to register in good time. The City of Chemnitz's holiday calendar for the summer school holidays is also helpful every year. It is published in June and also provides an overview of many trips and camps.
The tour organiser applies for funding from the Office for Youth and Family Affairs on behalf of the Chemnitz participants and also handles the billing.
Eligible families with a Chemnitz Pass only need to present their Chemnitz Pass to the travel organiser. Proof of income is no longer required.
Families with a low income who do not have the Chemnitz Pass but are entitled to it can apply for it easily at the social welfare office.
The new guideline comes into force on 1 January 2018.
