New games tables in the central library

The Central Library's GamingArena is getting a new addition: visitors to the city library can use the new interactive multi-touch games table from Wednesday 16 March at 2 pm.
At the same time as its "big brother" in the GamingArena, the KUTI games table will also be open to the public in the children's area of the Central Library.
Fans of classic board games will also get their money's worth in the children's world: with a large wooden table on which either Ludo or chess can be played across the entire table surface.
The multi-touch table is a customised design, adapted to the needs of players in the library. Whether for students who want to take a short reading break with a bit of "brain jogging" or to bridge the waiting time for the "Rendevouz an der Zenti":
The 4K UHD touchscreen with a screen diagonal of 1.39 metres can be used primarily for entertaining games for up to four simultaneous players.
Communicative games of skill for all generations can be played, such as "Wong", a sophisticated variation of the well-known classic game, puzzle games such as Labyrinth, Sudoku, Puzzle or Memory, action games such as Pinball, creative applications such as painting or keyboard games, as well as popular team games such as table football, air hockey or billiards. Many of the games and applications are self-explanatory or can be learnt by simply trying them out.
However, the display also offers other usage scenarios: For example, learning content can be streamed from a tablet or smartphone to the 55-inch display for collaborative work. And in future, other input and output devices such as virtual reality glasses can also be connected to the touch display's powerful gaming PC.
The sturdy wooden frame of the multi-touch display was created at Holzkombinat Chemnitz. In the next step, the City Library's gaming working group would like to work with Holzkombinat and interested people to further design the table, both artistically and functionally. This will take place as a workshop afternoon as part of the BibLab-C project.
The KUTI games table in the children's world offers 20 colourful learning, guessing and skill games for the younger ones. In addition, there are always new quiz questions from the library team.
The GamingArena was created in 2020 and the city library has been lending out console games such as games for Nintendo DS, Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox and Wii to its customers for around ten years. Regular "Let́s Play" game afternoons have been taking place since 2016. The main focus is on games with a USK 0 and USK 6 rating that have a co-operative character.
