New funding programme for the cultural and creative industries
City of Chemnitz offers support for start-ups
With "KRACH - Kreativraum Chemnitz", a new funding award is being initiated to support companies in the cultural and creative industries in the start-up process and thus further develop Chemnitz as a centre of attraction for young people. With this programme, the city is implementing one of the recommendations for sustainable urban development from the "City Lab Chemnitz" analysis of the city of the future.
The Europe-wide call for proposals for the "KRACH - Kreativraum Chemnitz" programme is set to take place for the first time in autumn 2017 and is looking for innovative business ideas and projects with economic viability. A jury consisting of European cultural and creative industry experts as well as representatives of the City of Chemnitz, Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- u. Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (CWE) and Kreatives Chemnitz - Branchenverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft will select up to a maximum of ten award winners from the applications.
The programme provides young entrepreneurs with financial support during the start-up phase, consulting services from a network of experts and rent-free premises for their ideas. The cultural and creative industries should preferably be located in the Brühl, city centre, Altchemnitz and Sonnenberg districts and thus contribute to the revitalisation and diversity of the city districts. Promoting the cultural and creative industries is also an important step towards becoming "European Capital of Culture 2025".
The City of Chemnitz and the CWE developed "KRACH - Kreativraum Chemnitz" in collaboration with Kreatives Chemnitz. The programme will be coordinated by the CWE in future.
