A new short film entitled "Welcome to Chemnitz" went online today with the aim of actively attracting skilled workers to the city of Chemnitz. The production, which was created in collaboration between the Business Division and the Welcome Centre Chemnitz and the local company Video Vision, highlights the personal opportunities, chances and prospects in the region and shows how liveable Chemnitz is. The film is now available in German and English on the YouTube channel of the City of Chemnitz and can also be used by Chemnitz companies for their recruitment of skilled workers.
The film focuses on international skilled workers who are realising their professional dreams in Chemnitz in exciting jobs or at the excellent university while benefiting from the high quality of life. In 2024, Chemnitz was named one of the ten most liveable cities in Germany by the analysis platform Prognos. The facts that led to this award are presented in the film and convey a positive attitude towards life in the city: here, skilled workers find the best conditions for starting their careers in a family-friendly environment with affordable and diverse living space, good childcare, a wide range of leisure activities, green oases for recreation throughout the city and short distances to the surrounding regions.
"Our aim is to present Chemnitz as an attractive location for highly qualified (international) skilled workers," says Silvana Bergk, Head of the City of Chemnitz's Economic Department. "The demand for skilled labour is high in many sectors, and we want to show that Chemnitz not only offers jobs, but also a home where people can feel at home."
Anyone who can imagine a life in the diverse city of Chemnitz is supported in all steps of arriving and settling in by the Welcome Centre Chemnitz - the central contact and service point in the City of Chemnitz's Citizens' Office for returning and relocating skilled workers from Germany and abroad and their families. The Welcome Centre also advises regional employers on issues relating to the integration of international skilled workers.
The Welcome Centre Chemnitz is supported by the regional skilled workers alliance. This measure is co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
