New "Fantasia" day-care centre in Altendorf

Start of preparatory construction work

The development work for the new Fantasia daycare centre in Altendorf will start at the beginning of May. Construction of the daycare centre can then begin. The outdoor facilities will be built from August 2019. The facility is scheduled to open in May 2020 and will be operated by Heim gGmbH with 119 places, including 30 crèche and 89 kindergarten places.

The building has a floor area of approx. 520 square metres. The walls are made of sand-lime brick and the top of the building is a reinforced concrete ceiling with a flat roof structure. The interior walls are made of sand-lime brick or drywall construction. Suspended ceilings made of plasterboard are generally installed. The wet rooms, kitchens and corridors will have floor coverings made of ceramic tiles or porcelain stoneware. All other rooms will have PVC or linoleum flooring. In the façade design, different square window sizes with protruding coloured window reveals are playfully arranged at different heights in the north façade and partly in the east and west façades. The pie-shaped structure was planned in such a way that the majority of hot water and heating is generated by a solar thermal system. The rooms are equipped with mechanical ventilation and underfloor heating.

In the current design, the crèche (0-3 years) with two groups is located on the ground floor. The kindergarten (3-6 years) with four groups is located on the upper floor. Each group area has two large group rooms, its own sanitary and cloakroom area as well as a materials storage room.

On the ground floor there is also a large multi-purpose room with associated equipment room, a children's trolley room, a staff changing room with WC and cleaning materials storage, a house utility room and the kitchen with storage and side entrance for deliveries. In addition to the four group areas, the upper floor also houses storage rooms, an office for the manager with meeting room, an external consultation room and a room for outdoor play equipment with access to the outdoor play area. The staircase with a lift is centrally located in the foyer and corridor area.

A total of 20 car parking spaces and bicycle racks for ten bicycles are located in front of the new building. The grounds of the daycare centre are bordered by a newly installed steel mesh fence.

In the outdoor area, seating areas, umbrellas, raised beds and play areas will be installed. The play equipment is located here: playhouse, water and mud facilities, tower play system, spring seesaw and toddler swing. The mud area in particular is shaded by an awning. Numerous deciduous trees have also been planted. Here, children will find pleasant natural shade, sufficient space to play and plenty of places to retreat to. An asphalt roller rink will also be installed.

The subsoil investigations revealed that a former storage area for waste from neighbouring industry is located on the construction site. The contaminated sites will be remediated and the soil replaced by the construction company in close cooperation with the Environmental Agency, the Saxony State Directorate and ARTEC GmbH in accordance with the remediation concept. This measure is being funded by the State Directorate of Saxony via the ERDF funding programme.

The costs totalled 5.65 million euros, of which the city is bearing approx. 4.3 million. Krause & Co. GmbH has been commissioned with the work.
