New dates and deadlines for the application for "European Capital of Culture 2025"
The Conference of Culture Ministers, the European Commission and the Cultural Foundation of the German Federal States have agreed in an intensive coordination process to postpone the dates and deadlines for the European Capital of Culture 2025 competition in Germany by several weeks. This is to take account of the more difficult working conditions in the applicant cities due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The process is to be finalised in 2020, taking into account the highest possible health standards.
The updated dates are:
- Submission of Bid Book 2:
The submission of the second bid book will be extended by seven weeks until 21 September 2020 (midnight).
- City visits:
A group of up to four jurors* will visit the five shortlisted German cities in the week from 19 to 23 October 2020. The delegation will visit Chemnitz on 22 October 2020.
- Final jury meeting:
The final jury meeting will take place from 26 to 28 October 2020 in Berlin. The candidate cities will be presented in alphabetical order. On 28 October 2020, the European jury will announce its recommendation for the "European Capital of Culture 2025" in Germany to the press.
