New construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge
Lifting in the new bridge girders next weekend - full closure of Zschopauer Straße required
Next weekend, the new bridge girders for the landward carriageway of the new Zschopauer Straße bridge will be installed. The preparatory work will begin during the night from Thursday to Friday. From 6 p.m. on Thursday, 12 March, Zschopauer Straße will be fully closed in the bridge area up to the Ritterstraße junction to allow the special transports of the bridge girders to be parked and completed. The CVAG bus service will continue until 10 pm. The closure will be lifted on Monday, 16 March, at around 5 am.
The diversion for Zschopauer Straße will run towards the city centre via Lutherstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße and Ritterstraße. The diversion towards the countryside is via Annenstraße, Reitbahnstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße and Lutherstraße. The closure of Bernsdorfer Straße will be cancelled for the duration of the diversion.
Access to neighbouring properties will be ensured in consultation with the owners.
The lifting and installation of the composite prefabricated girders (VFT girders) will take place from Friday, 13 March, 6 pm to Monday, 16 March, 4 am. All tracks under the bridge structure must be closed for this, i.e. this is the second major total closure of the Dresden/Werdau railway line and the Chemnitz/Aue line. The date has been anchored in DB AG's construction planning for three years. Therefore, only the aforementioned execution period is available for the installation of the bridge girders.
Due to the scope of the work to be carried out within the above-mentioned closure period, the work must be carried out in multi-shift operation, i.e. "around the clock" and therefore also at weekends and at night.
The six steel girders fitted with a concrete slab (VFT girders) must be laid during a DB closure period and sealed and earthed in such a way that the electrified railway line can be operated again without disruption after the closure.
To this end, the girders will be completed on site with the media pipes and the cap formwork and installed in a tandem lift using two mobile cranes - two 100-tonne cranes are planned for each of the new abutments. The girder weight is approx. 30 tonnes.
The construction work for the new Zschopauer Straße bridge began on 4 March 2019 with the preliminary work for the canal construction by Deutsche Bahn AG. Construction of the bridge structure for the city of Chemnitz officially began on 5 August 2019, while the canal construction by Deutsche Bahn AG was completed on 16 December 2019.
The new bridge construction is part of Deutsche Bahn AG's construction project, the so-called "Chemnitz railway arch".
The Deutsche Bahn AG press office is available to answer any questions about this overall project.
