New construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge
Lifting in the new bridge girders on the city-bound carriageway at the weekend - full closure of Zschopauer Straße required
This coming weekend, the new bridge girders for the city-bound carriageway will be installed on the new Zschopauer Straße bridge. The preparatory work will begin on Thursday, 7 January, from 7.30 am. From this time, Zschopauer Straße will be fully closed between Lutherstraße and Ritterstraße. The full closure will be lifted on Monday, 11 January at around 4 am.
Due to the expected lower traffic load during this time, the signposted diversion will run in both directions via Ritterstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße and Lutherstraße. However, motorists are requested to use alternative routes where possible.
Access to neighbouring properties will be ensured in consultation with the owners.
All tracks of the Dresden/Werdau railway line and the Chemnitz/Aue line under the bridge structure must be closed for the lifting and installation of the bridge girders, so-called composite prefabricated girders (VFT girders). This is the fourth major total closure of the line. The date of the DB track closure has been firmly anchored in DB AG's construction operations planning for three years. Therefore, only the aforementioned execution period is available for the installation.
Six steel girders fitted with a concrete slab (VFT girders) will be installed and sealed and earthed in such a way that the electrified railway line can be operated again without disruption after the closure period. For this purpose, the girders will be completed on site with the media pipes and the cap formwork and laid with two mobile cranes - two 100-tonne cranes are planned - each at the new abutments in a tandem lift. The girder weight is approx. 30 tonnes.
Due to the scope of the work to be carried out during the closure period, the work must be carried out in multiple shifts and therefore "around the clock", i.e. also at weekends and at night.
The construction work for the new Zschopauer Straße bridge began on 4 March 2019 with the preliminary work for the canal construction by Deutsche Bahn AG. Construction of the bridge structure for the city of Chemnitz officially began on 5 August 2019, with Deutsche Bahn AG's canal construction and the landward carriageway of the Zschopauer Straße bridge completed on time. The new substructure has been in operation since 30 June 2020.
The new bridge construction is part of Deutsche Bahn AG's construction project, the so-called "Chemnitz railway arch". If you have any questions about this overall project, please contact the Deutsche Bahn AG press office.
