New construction of the Gaussstrasse bridge over the cycle path begins
Work to replace the Gaußstraße bridge over the Kappelbach cycle path in the Siegmar district will begin on Monday, 6 March 2017.
Due to the desolate condition of the Gaußstraße bridge (built in 1926), the cycle path beneath it has already had to be closed. The superstructure is soaked with moisture and corrosion damage to the exposed main girders is clearly visible. Loose concrete shells on the underside of the structure pose a danger to cyclists. The bridge therefore needs to be rebuilt.
The new replacement structure will be constructed as a reinforced concrete frame structure on a deep foundation. The district heating route, which previously ran parallel to the cycle path, will be buried in the construction area, creating a larger open space under the bridge.
The new structure has a clear width of 5.96 metres and a clear height of 2.5 metres. The bridge has a width of 12.10 m, on which a road surface of 7.10 m and footpaths of 2.50 m on both sides will be created.
Preparatory work, including tree felling, has been underway since 23 February 2017. The work must be carried out with a full closure of Gaußstraße and the cycle path. A diversion will be set up via Zwickauer Straße, Oberfrohnaer Straße and Rosmarienstraße.
The construction work is expected to last until 6 November 2017 and will cost around 450,000 euros. Krause & Co. Hoch-, Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH from Neukirchen-Adorf was commissioned with the construction work.
