New Chemnitz furniture for the city centre
Photo opportunity: 6 July, 12 noon - Presentation of the new seating furniture at Neumarkt
Tomorrow, Wednesday 6 July at 12 noon, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will present new special seating furniture on Neumarkt. These will offer all visitors to Chemnitz city centre new places to linger.
In collaboration with the European Art Association, the City of Chemnitz has commissioned the production of customised seating furniture that makes reference to Chemnitz. The shape of a four by five metre seating island is reminiscent of the city's layout. In addition, five "Chemnitz executive chairs" in the shape of the letter C invite you to take a seat.
The colour scheme reinforces the individual character of the furniture and at the same time reflects the diversity of the city. It also picks up on the colour spectrum of the Capital of Culture.
The designs for the seating were created in an artistic process in which local stakeholders worked on the design of public spaces using seating elements.
The seating furniture is mobile and can be set up at various locations in the city. They can also be integrated into event formats, such as the upcoming Chemnitz Wine Village.
The costs for the new seating furniture totalled 57,000 euros (gross). They were financed by the City of Chemnitz's city centre fund, which supports measures to revitalise the city centre and increase the quality of time spent there.
