New Chemnitz City Council constituted - outgoing councillors honoured with entry in the Golden Book
The new Chemnitz City Council was constituted this Wednesday afternoon. The 60 councillors were sworn in by Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig.
The councillors were sworn in with the following oath:
"I swear allegiance to the constitution, obedience to the laws and conscientious fulfilment of my duties. In particular, I swear to conscientiously uphold the rights of the City of Chemnitz and to promote its welfare and that of its inhabitants to the best of my ability."
Before the new councillors were sworn in, the first item on the agenda was the ceremonial farewell to the councillors who had left at the end of the previous legislative period. They signed the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz. "I would like to thank you very much for your work. In your honorary office, you have given us the most valuable thing you could give: Your time and your commitment. The city is made - by personalities like you. And not in legislative periods. You will be able to say that many projects will be realised in the future: I helped set the course for this."
At its first meeting, the new City Council adopted its working basis in the form of the main statutes and rules of procedure, as well as the compensation statutes, the publicity statutes and the guidelines for financing political groups. In addition to the existing committees, there will be an Administration 2020 Strategy Committee and a Public Procurement Committee in future. The City Council also decided that the committees will continue to have 13 members. The allocation of seats in the committees was also decided.
