On Saturday, 30 August at 4 p.m., Lord Mayor Sven Schulze and Paul Dickfeld, Chairman of the Postsportverein Chemnitz e. V., will officially open the new hockey artificial turf pitch at the Poststadion sports park, Marktsteig 110. The ceremony is part of the club's celebration weekend.
The new building replaces the previous hard pitch and opens up a wide range of possibilities for year-round use for the club as well as schools and day-care centres in the surrounding area. The Postsportverein has already entered into cooperation agreements so that the pitch will benefit both organised sport and the sporting development of children and young people.
The costs totalled 2.43 million euros. The Free State of Saxony is supporting the project with funding totalling €1.165 million. The City of Chemnitz is contributing 1.032 million euros, which is 100,000 euros more than originally planned. Part of the additional costs resulted from the fact that trees had to be felled during the construction work for traffic safety reasons (costs: around 85,000 euros). In addition, a modern scoreboard including foundations was installed at a cost of around 15,000 euros.
The Postsportverein e. V. currently has 408 members - including 151 children and young people - and offers eight types of sport. Its strongest department in terms of members and performance is hockey with 175 active players.
